WeatherBug Helps Broadcast Partners Seamlessly Move to High-Def Weather Cameras For Live, Local Reporting

AMS' 36th Conference on Broadcast Meteorology, Denver, CO — WeatherBug®, the world's leading provider of live, local weather information and services, announced today the nationwide availability of its new HD weather cameras. WeatherBug's new HD weather cameras provide the next generation of high-definition images for WeatherBug's broadcast partners to report on neighborhood-level, live, local weather conditions. Available immediately, WeatherBug's new HD weather cameras are being showcased for the first time this week in booth #200 at the 36th Conference on Broadcast Meteorology, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society.

"WeatherBug's new HD weather cameras deliver exceedingly clear, high definition images of storms and weather systems as they move through a market," said Don Sears, director of media sales, WeatherBug. "Now, more than ever, we can really help our broadcast partners bring their weather images to life while also helping them to be the first in the HD race to deliver live, local weather in high-def. "

The WeatherBug Network consists of more than 8,000 weather stations, 1,200 of which include live weather cameras, located primarily at schools, major sporting venues and public facilities. Live data and images from the WeatherBug stations and cameras are delivered to broadcasters via the Internet and received by WeatherBug Zoom, an end-to-end digital system that functions as an on-air display platform generating graphics and allowing meteorologists to manipulate video.

Weather information from WeatherBug's HD cameras seamlessly integrates into the new, HD optimized WeatherBug Zoom 3.5 system. Zoom 3.5 provides the highest quality in on-air visuals for up-to-the-second weather coverage on a wide range of weather parameters including temperatures, dew point, wind speed/direction and rainfall from anywhere in the WeatherBug Network.

"Weather is an extremely visual experience. With the help of our media partners, we look forward to bringing that experience to the next level and are extremely excited to begin the nationwide build-out of our HD weather camera network," continued Sears.

WeatherBug partners with more than 80 broadcast affiliates, including major market outlets such as WJLA in D.C., WGN in Chicago and KYW in Philadelphia. Through its broadcast partners, local weather information from the WeatherBug Network of weather stations and weather cameras reaches more than 70 million households each day.

The HD weather camera images will also be available to consumers through the WeatherBug desktop application, Web site, and across WeatherBug Mobile properties including mobile web, downloadable Java and BREW applications on a number of wireless carriers nationwide. WeatherBug is a top ten news and information site on the Web and across mobile, due to its highly targeted and engaging content.
