WeatherBug Applications for BlackBerry Smartphones Updated with Increased Customizable Interactivity and Enhanced Weather Content

September 28, 2010 – Germantown, MD — WeatherBug®, the leading provider of consumer and professional weather products and services and operator of the largest weather observing and lightning network, today announced new versions of WeatherBug applications for BlackBerry® smartphones with enhanced interactive interfaces and customizable weather content.

The very popular WeatherBug (free) and WeatherBug Elite (paid) applications for BlackBerry smartphones have been upgraded with a new functional design and improved weather content. Users are now able to create home screen icons and receive alert notifications for their favorite locations. Weather condition information can be easily customized to display the most pertinent weather information including extended 7-day forecast, detailed forecast, hourly forecast, today’s conditions, pollen, Doppler radar and live camera images. Current information about weather conditions has been enhanced with even more detailed live observations including temperature, humidity, rain, pressure, wind speed and direction, UV index, sunrise and sunset. In addition, animated weather maps including Doppler radar, NWS alerts, satellite, temperature and lightning strikes provide improved interactive imagery.

WeatherBug applications for BlackBerry smartphones have been recognized for unique Super App features including:

  • always-on display of current temperature and weather conditions with automatic updates as weather changes or an alert is issued
  • contextualized location-based weather accessible by touching map locations
  • tight integration with BlackBerry Contacts, Maps and Calendars by updating weather for addresses, locations and scheduling
  • sharing of weather content, alerts and images by email from within the applications
  • proactive and notification-driven alerting when severe weather threatens including lightning alerts exclusively from the WeatherBug Total Lightning Network
  • efficient use of push technology for conserving device resources

The WeatherBug Elite application for Blackberry smartphones is available now. The free version of the software will be available in early October. More information is available in the mobile section of weatherbug.com or on BlackBerry App World™. WeatherBug will be speaking at BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 in San Francisco on September 28 at 2 p.m. to discuss integration best practices and lessons-learned for BlackBerry development.
