U.S. Army Selects WeatherBug for Advance Lightning Detection
WeatherBug Total Lightning Network Data Selected by the U.S. Army RDT&E Meteorology Program for Advanced Lightning Detection
Germantown, MD — WeatherBug® Professional, a brand of AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., today announced that it has been selected by the U.S. Army RDT&E Meteorology Program for the provision of advanced lightning detection information. Comprehensive, real-time and historical lightning data will be provided from the WeatherBug Total Lightning NetworkTM (WTLN) to the U.S. Army for use in its research, development, test and evaluation programs.
The WeatherBug Total Lightning Network™ (WTLN) is the largest total lightning network currently available, providing sophisticated lightning location technology and comprehensive in-cloud (IC) and cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning detection worldwide. The U.S. Army RDT&E Meteorology Program will utilize WTLN lightning data at seven Army test facilities across the United States including Dugway Proving Ground, Aberdeen Test Center, Electronic Proving Ground, Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (Ft. A. P. Hill location), Redstone Test Center, White Sands Missile Range, and Yuma Proving Ground. Meteorology teams at each of these locations develop and deliver comprehensive suites of weather and climate products in support of various missions designed to advance the overall defense capabilities and operational readiness of the nation.
"Our dense, large-scale network footprint utilizes broadband sensors that capture both high and low frequencies. This combination of attributes enables an unprecedented capability to detect total lightning while at the same time delivers unmatched network redundancy and reliability," stated Bill Callahan, AWS Vice President of Program Management.
"We are pleased that the Army chose WTLN data for their mission-critical lightning information. With years of research and development, we have deployed a superior technology that captures the most precise cloud-to-ground and in-cloud data on a large scale with detection metrics capable of enabling early warning storm detection products. Our continued expansion with Federal initiatives embraces our aim to empower society with the most advanced weather intelligence," added Robert S. Marshall, CEO and Founder of AWS Convergence Technologies.
