Fatal Lightning Strikes in Pakistan
Lightning strikes claimed the lives of at least seven people, including four women and two children during a storm on 20 February 2016. Seven people of the same family were killed while eight others were injured when a two-story house collapsed due to a lightning strike near Purana Chowk area in Punjab’s Khusbab District.
The above video powered by Earth Networks Total Lightning Network shows the severe thunderstorm as it made its way through the Punjab District and beyond. Our lightning sensors detected over 3,000 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, like the one that caused the collapse of the two-story home and death of seven.
Rescuers worked through the early morning hours to save those who were trapped under debris from the fallen house. Those who were injured by the lightning strike were taken to both Civil Hospital and the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Jauharabad for treatment.
